Reggae Legend Buju Banton Partners with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

Buju Banton
is officially on the Roc Nation roster. The Jamaican reggae and dancehall icon has signed to JAY-Z’s label, cementing his comeback after being released from prison last year.

In celebration of the new deal, Gargamel premiered the music video for his new single “Steppa” on Friday (November 22). The release swiftly follows the recently published single “Trust,” which dropped on November 14.

Buju becomes the second Jamaican reggae artist to represent Roc Nation, following Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley.

Jay continues to broaden the repertoire of artists on his already extensive roster. Other notable acts added this year include Megan Thee Stallion, Griselda Records artists Benny the Butcher & Westside Gunn and Maxo Kream.

Banton returned to the stage in March for a concert that sold out Jamaica’s national stadium. The show was hailed as the “biggest music event in Jamaica since Bob Marley’s Smile Jamaica concert in 1976,” according to the BBC

Calling me ‘ashawo’ is archaic, it won’t shut me up – Nana Aba to critics

Nana Aba Anamoah has taken a swipe at her critics who attempt to slut-shame her anytime she shares her opinion on national issues.

The ace broadcaster made the comments during an interview with KSM, where she was discussing the verbal attacks launched on her by NPP communicators after she criticised the sitting president for not being accountable enough.

“The NPP released their thug dogs on me for something I said and I don’t know why in 2019, political parties communicators still think that calling a woman ‘ashawo’ will gag her in any way,” she said in a snippet of the interview shared on social media.

Nana Aba Anamoah also added that “Maybe that will gag other women but, definitely, not me. I mean ‘ashawo’ is an overused insult”

According to the GhOne TV news editor, men who warm her bed “do not affect the price of kenkey”.

Stormzy Links With Ed Sheeran & Burna Boy On New Single “Own It”

Stormzy taps pop star Ed Sheeran and Afrobeats singer Burna Boy for his new single “Own It.”

The “Sounds of the Skeng” artist announced on Tuesday that he would be releasing his second debut album next month. A follow-up to 2017’s Gang Signs & Prayer, Heavy is the Head is expected to include 16 tracks, some of which, such as “Crown,” “Wiley Flow,” and “Vossi Bop” have already been doing well on the charts. The latter, in fact, earned Stormzy his first number one single.

While fans have a few more weeks to wait until Heavy is the Head drops on December 13th, Stormzy is not leaving them out in the cold. The eleventh track from the upcoming album, entitled “Own It,” was released to the world at midnight UK time.

Ed Sheeran

The London-born rapper did not fly solo on the latest single. He enlisted the help of Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran, making the track an electric-influenced number that has the “Beautiful People” singer providing the harmonies, while Stormzy and Burna Boy both bring the fire with their rapping skills.

“Own it / Girl, you just own it / ‘Cause your body’s on fire / Show me how to control it and own it,” Burna Boy and Ed Sheeran sings in the chorus.

Prior to the release of the song, the “On the Low” singer shared a snap of the trio reclining on arm chairs, surrounded by three women. The caption confirmed the release of “Own It” and included the flags of the United Kingdom, Ghana, and Nigeria to celebrate the origins of all three artists.

“Own It” is not the only collaboration featured on Heavy is the Head, as “Audacity” features Headie One, and “One Second” will see Stormzy working with H.E.R.

R. Kelly’s Girlfriend Joycelyn Savage Issued Apology, Ready To Tell-All

One of R. Kelly’s mistresses, Joycelyn Savage, is coming forward with her own story.

While R. Kelly sits behind bars awaiting multiple trials on child pornography and sexual abuse charges, his two infamous girlfriends have been proclaiming his innocence and holding him down since he was arrested over the summer. Joycelyn Savage, 23, and Azriel Clary, 21, have been defending their alleged abusive boyfriend against public slander and accusations that the two were being held against their will. The two went as far as to appear on CBS This Morning and told Gayle King that they were in happy, healthy relationships with Kelly, despite pleas from their families for them to come home.

Both Savage and Clary’s parents have been vocal in the media about not being able to see or contact their daughters since they became involved with Kelly.

The tides may be starting to turn, however, and an Instagram page believed to have belonged to Joycelyn Savage posted a cryptic message Friday with the caption “I’m sorry.” “There’s something I need to reveal, something I should’ve talked about a long time ago. This is my story!” the message read. Before Friday, it had been over two years since a photo was posted to that account.

Savage’s parents were featured in the Emmy-nominated docuseries “Surviving R. Kelly” that aired in January and prompted law enforcement to take a more in-depth look into the singer’s conduct with women. Since then, Kelly has been hit with several charges, including child pornography, sexual abuse, kidnapping, and obstruction of justice, as more alleged victims came forward about their relationships with him while they were underage. Joycelyn Savage met Kelly at a concert when she was 19. She and Clary have both claimed that their parents just want money and fame. R. Kelly denies all allegations made against him and pled not guilty to federal charges in August.

Stop discrediting local artistes and producers – Fuse ODG ‘angrily’ tells journalists .

Whilst Shatta Wale is jubilating over having his name entered into Grammy awards because of his feature in Beyoncé’s Lion King album, UK-based Ghanaian musician, Nana Richard Abiona, popularly known as Fuse ODG, is chastising Ghanaian entertainment journalists for not supporting artistes and producers in Ghana.

In an interview with Accra based 3 FM, the Antenna hitmaker said, “How is it that Shatta Wale is on a Beyoncé album, how is it that all these artistes and producers are on an album and [you are] trying to discredit them, how does it make any sense”.

Fuse ODG who describes himself as a Grammy award winner because a project that he was part of won a Grammy award stated that instead of entertainment journalists pushing artistes and producers in Ghana to reach the top, they rather spend time discrediting their efforts.

“How is discussing an issue trying to discredit our artistes and producers? How does it make sense? Instead of pushing them to the top, why are we discrediting them?” he quizzed.

“What benefit is it that we are on this phone line, trying to discredit our artistes…you guys don’t want to support local art, why is it that we are here trying to discredit, it doesn’t make any sense to me,” Fuse ‘angrily’ stated on the radio interview.

“I’m still on the same stands that you guys are disappointing trying to discredit our artistes and producers… it doesn’t make any sense,” he stressed.

He indicated that all over the world people celebrate any product that they have been a part of and he has been nominated for the Grammy awards but in Ghana, entertainment journalists will go a long way to discredit artistes and producers who are in a similar position such as he is in.

Sarkodie doesn’t play any role in my career now – Akwaboah

Ghanaian crooner, Gladstorm Akwaboah, has reacted to reports that he has left Sarkodie’s record label, SarkCess Music.

About a week ago, rumours were rife that the ‘Gangsta Lovin’ singer had landed a new record deal after severing his relationship with Sarkodie and his label.

Speaking to Nana Tuffour on Citi TV’s Saturday Live, Akwaboah said his contract with Sarkodie had elapsed but he was yet to finalise things with him so he could officially inform the public that he has left the label.

When asked what role Sarkodie currently plays in his music career, he said: “I wouldn’t say he plays any role now but he once gave me the advice to be me and that has really helped me.”

When asked if he was still with Sark, he said “no”.

“We have a deal and I wouldn’t want to spearhead it [the announcement of the break-up] myself. I want us to finish everything that we are doing then officially announce it,” he noted.

“I am not with Sarkodie because I am doing stuff for myself on my own now. Our contract was three years so we’ve gotten to the point where we are yet to find out whether to continue or break off,” Akwaboah added.

Reports suggest that Akwaboah exited SarkCess Music Record label even before Strongman did.

Akwaboah, who is also a songwriter, was responsible for writing about 90% of the songs on Sarkodie’s ‘Mary album.

After releasing his maiden album ‘Matters of the Heart’ in 2018, he is currently out with a single titled ‘Gangsta Lovin.’

He is also known for songs such as ‘I Do Love You’, ‘Mesan Agye Wo’, ‘Naadu’, among others.

Emirates reacts to claim Di Asa winner was kicked off Dubai flight.

Emirates has revealed why 2019 Di Asa winner could not board one of its Dubai-bound flights from Accra.

The management at Emirates has revealed that for safety reasons the organisers of Di Asa should have purchased extra seats for Precious Mensah.

According to Emirates, they require all passengers are safely and comfortably seated with their seatbelt fastened.

“We respect our customers’ privacy and cannot discuss specific customer details or cases,” the statement released Wednesday said.

The 2019 winner of Accra-based Atinka TV’s plus size women reality show ‘Di Asa’ was disallowed from boarding an Emirates flight to Dubai because of her size.

Precious Mensah, popularly known as PM, was supposed to travel to the UAE as part of her prize with the two runners-up.

Emirates in their statement added that it is an industry practice for passengers who cannot be accommodated in a single seat due to their size to only purchase extra seats “should a seat be available”.

This, the statement explained is for the passenger’s own safety and comfort.

Meanwhile, the organisers said PM could not fit into two seats even when they purchased it, hence they tried to get another seat but were told none was available.

They are hoping to sort out the issue by Friday, November 22.

Read the full statement below:

“Emirates is committed to passenger safety.”

Emirates places the highest standards on in-flight safety and as part of this, it is a requirement that all passengers are safely and comfortably seated with their seatbelt fastened. An industry practise for passengers who cannot be accommodated in a single seat due to their size is for them to purchase an extra seat for their own safety and comfort, should a seat be available.”

Burna Boy Bows To Pressure, Cancels South Africa

There are reports that Burna Boy’s planned show in South Africa has been cancelled.

According to South Africa’s media house, Timeslive, the organisers decided to cancel the show because of the outrage it had created.

It also reports that the organisers of the show talked with Burna Boy’s management and decided to withdraw him from the concert and cancel his show.

The decision to cancel the Africans Unite Concert comes after the call from the Tshwane Entertainment Collective to boycott the Africans Unite concert in Tshwane.

With the increasing threats of violence from other unfortunate segments of the public and without any government intervention, Phambili Media and Play Network Africa were prompted to take the threats and warnings seriously, as the safety of all artists and attendees could not be guaranteed.

We then decided to cancel the concert. The safety of all attendees, artists, and crew comes first, the statement reads.

They said the decision to cancel the shows came after warnings of a shutdown from a group of artists and event organisers under the umbrella of Tshwane Entertainment Collective.
