World Diabetes Day

World Diabetes Day.

Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects 1 in 10 adults worldwide. It causes a person’s blood sugar level to become too high, because the body doesn’t make enough insulin or can’t use it as well as it should.

World Diabetes Day

Symptoms of diabetes include:

🚰 Feeling very thirsty
🚽 Needing to urinate more often than usual
👁️ Blurred vision
😴 Feeling tired
📉 Losing weight unintentionally

Symptoms of Diabetes
Causes of Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is not preventable. It is an autoimmune condition where the body’s immune system attacks itself and stops the body from making insulin.

Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 diabetes can often be prevented with healthy lifestyle, such as:

✅ Keeping a healthy body weight
✅ Staying physically active
✅ Eating a healthy diet
✅ Quitting tobacco

🤰 Gestational diabetes can develop during pregnancy and happens when the body can’t make enough insulin, causing high blood sugar. Gestational diabetes usually goes away after giving birth.

The best way to detect diabetes early is to get regular check-ups and blood tests with a healthcare provider. Early diagnosis and treatment is key to preventing diabetes.

Cholera is an infectious disease caused by the Vibrio cholerae bacteria. It spreads primarily through contaminated water and can lead to severe dehydration and electrolyte imbalances if not treated quickly.

Symptoms of Cholera:

  • Severe diarrhoea (often watery)

Prevention Measures:

Cholera can be effectively prevented through a combination of personal hygiene and safe practices. Here are key steps to take:

  • Ensure food, especially seafood and meats, is cooked to safe temperatures.
  • Avoid raw or undercooked foods, particularly in areas with known cholera outbreaks.
  1. Practice Safe Food Handling:
  • Keep kitchen surfaces and utensils clean.
  • Avoid cross-contamination by using separate cutting boards for raw and cooked foods.

Breast Cancer Awareness

Breast cancer is a significant health issue affecting millions around the globe. Here are some effective ways to lower your risk

  1. Do Not Smoke
Smoking is linked to many types of cancer, including breast cancer. The chemicals in tobacco can damage DNA and promote cancer cell growth.
    How to Avoid:
  • Seek smoking cessation programs.
  • Consider nicotine replacement therapy or medications.
  • Surround yourself with non-smokers to reduce temptation.
  1. Breastfeed
Breastfeeding may reduce the risk of breast cancer, especially if continued for 1.5 to 2 years. It helps to lower estrogen levels and can delay the return of menstrual cycles after childbirth.
    How to Avoid:
  • Consult with healthcare professionals for breastfeeding support.
  • Join breastfeeding support groups to share experiences and receive guidance.
  1. Control Your Weight
Being overweight or obese increases the risk of breast cancer, particularly after menopause. Fat tissue produces estrogen, which can fuel certain breast cancers.
    How to Avoid:
  • Maintain a balanced diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.
  • Engage in regular physical activity—aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise weekly.
  1. Be Physically Active
Regular physical activity can help maintain a healthy weight and reduces hormone levels associated with breast cancer risk.
    How to Avoid:
  • Incorporate activities you enjoy into your routine, such as walking, cycling, or dancing.
  • Set achievable fitness goals to stay motivated.
  1. Limit or Avoid Alcohol
Studies suggest that alcohol consumption is linked to an increased risk of breast cancer. Limiting intake can help reduce this risk.
    How to Avoid:
  • Set a limit on your weekly alcohol consumption.
  • Explore non-alcoholic beverages as alternatives during social events.
  1. Avoid Exposure to Radiation
Exposure to radiation, particularly during certain medical procedures, can increase cancer risk. It’s essential to be mindful of unnecessary X-rays or CT scans.
    How to Avoid:
  • Discuss the necessity of imaging tests with your healthcare provider.
  • Seek alternatives that use less radiation when possible.

Don’t legalise LGBT+; its against African culture – Vicky Zugah

Actress Vicky Zugah has clarified that she has not engaged in anal sex before.

She told Nana Romeo on Accra100.5FM’s weekend entertainment show, Entertainment Capital on Saturday, 1 March 2021 that she was misinterpreted as having said otherwise in a television interview.

“I don’t do anal sex. I have never done anal sex. It came out that I claimed I liked anal sex. I don’t know where I said that. They were discussing oral sex on a show some time ago and the host switched to talking about anal sex.

“I wasn’t paying attention because the main topic of discussion was oral sex,” she stated.

Commenting on the recent LGBT+ conversations, the outspoken actress said: “Personally, inasmuch as I don’t see anything wrong with people’s sexual preference, I don’t think it is right for us to legalise what is wrong”.

“Behind closed doors, people have what they do to satisfy themselves sexually. That’s up to them. But for you to come out and say it has to be legalised, it has to be accepted in our society, that is what I don’t agree with because this is Africa.

“Whether you like it or not, this is Africa. There are things we adopt from the Western world, but we have to as much as possible try to emulate the right things,” she further stated.

COVID19 IS A SCAM IN Nigeria – Mr. Ibu

Comic actor, John Okafor aka Mr……………. Ibu, has claimed that the global pandemic raging the world, coronavirus is a scam in Nigeria.

In a chat with The Nation, the actor said he does not believe that COVID-19 exists in Nigeria nor does he care about its existence.

“Nigeria, we are not supposed to be involved in this COVID-19, I see no reason why we should be involved. Only Nigerians in the diaspora will have to partake in this devilish program.

We at home are oblivious, we are not supposed to be involved in any ceremony in trying to pretend or in trying to avoid. My brother, COVID-19, or 20 is not here, I don’t care.

Why would China give us sickness and America embellish the technicality and then sell it to the world and people now begin to die when they know it’s killing. Thank God we have hot weather, the thing sef dey fear us.”

Speaking further, the actor said “I no dey fear anything I dey wear cloth waka on my own. Nothing dey here, nobody don die for this whole area if you go another area nobody don die, go to stadium nobody don die. Let’s be sorry for ourselves.

On the rising numbers of cases of COVID-19 in Nigeria and activities of the NCDC, Mr. Ibu said, “You know anybody?

Have you ever attended any burial and they say na this thing kill am? have you ever gone to the hospital them say this person na COVID dey hold am? have you ever seen a family they say somebody na COVID na em kill am yesterday for family wey you know? You cannot, dem say dem say na em I and you dey hear. Even the sickness dey fear us.

“Are they not human beings, let them bring a picture of at least one person killed by COVID-19 and we find the family of such a person.

COVID whatever is not in Nigeria, we have hot weather here, the disease is scared of us just as we are scared of it so it can’t come here.

Zambia legalizes Marijuana growth for exports and for medical purposes only

The Zambian government has finally approved a proposal to legalize the production of Marijuana.
The production of Marijuana in Zambia will, however, be restricted to exports and for medical purposes only.

Companies wishing to trade in Marijuana in Zambia will be charged US$250,000 annual license fees.

Only successful bidders will be issued with commercial licenses to grow and trade in Marijuana for exports.

The licenses will be issued by the Ministry of Health while the growth of the crop will be strictly supervised by the Zambia National Service.
The move was unanimously approved during last Wednesday’s cabinet meeting at State House.

This was confirmed by highly placed officials at Cabinet Office who could not be identified as they are not authorized to speak to the media.

“Cabinet approved the Cab Memo submitted by Health Minister Dr. Chilufya for Marijuana legalization but for medicinal purposes. What is interested is that during that cabinet meeting, there were attempts by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture working with Ministry of Commerce to take over the whole process of issuing licenses from the Ministry of Health who have been pushing this agenda for some time,” the source said.

“It appears this whole process was backed by some rich organizations and companies who have been promised licenses that is why there was jostling about where the responsibility to administer this would sit, finally a vote was taken and the Ministry of Health won.”

While African cannabis industries have great potential, cannabis remains illegal throughout Africa except for in Lesotho.
