Back to school is a busy time for children and families. Please ensure the journey to school is a safe one!
Here are some tips to help keep your children safe as they head back to school:
- Review safety rules: Discuss safety rules with your children, such as looking both ways before crossing the street, obeying traffic signals, and staying away from strangers.
- Ensure proper safety gear: Make sure your children have the necessary safety gear, such as reflective clothing, helmets for biking or skating, and proper footwear.
- Plan the route: Walk or drive the route to school with your children, and identify safe crossing points, pedestrian crossings, and areas to avoid.
- Discuss bus safety: If your children take the school bus, review the rules for getting on and off the bus safely, and remind them to stay seated and behave while on the bus.
- Encourage active transportation: Promote walking, biking, or using public transportation as a way for your children to get to school, as these modes of transportation can help them stay active and healthy.
- Stay vigilant: Be aware of your surroundings and any potential hazards, and keep a close eye on your children, especially in busy areas or during drop-off and pick-up times.
- Communicate with the school: Stay in touch with your children’s school about any safety concerns or special needs they may have.
Remember, by taking these steps, you can help ensure that your children have a safe and successful start to the school year.
