How I survived in a single room with my family of 10 – Akua Amoakowaa shares her story

Ghana’s Most Beautiful 2011 winner, Akua Amoakowaa Mensah, has shared a story of the harsh conditions she and her family of 10 had to endure before breakthrough came.

Akua Amoakowaa Mensah revealed that growing up was a major challenge as her family could not afford accommodation at some point.

According to the beauty queen, her family of 10 lived in a single room and later moved to an uncompleted building after been chased out from a house they took care of for the landlord.

Speaking on Restoration TV with Stacy Amoteng, the General Manager of Angel Group of Companies said her struggles in life are one of the reasons she is careful about people who try to get close to her noting that most of them would have left if she was still going through the hardship she went through as a child.

“I grew up in a slum at Santasi until I was age 5. We had to move after she (Akua’s mother) met a woman who wanted her to take care of her house while she was abroad. We moved into the house and after 2 to 3 years the lady returned with her husband and asked us to move to a single room. After some time I think she was afraid my senior sister will snatch her husband after he praised her for how good she cooks as she was in charge of serving the family and she then asked us to move out of the house. We had to move after the landlady slapped my mum during an encounter and since my dad was struggling with his job and we had no money for rent we had to move to an uncompleted building.”

She said the struggle was so hard that she hard to improvise by using a polythene as a school bag. She emphasized that even though her father was hardworking their life challenge was because people failed to pay her dad after executing his job as a plumber.

Akua Amoakowaa Mensah is the fourth wife of the business mogul, Dr. Kwaku Oteng.

I made a million pounds at age 21 by selling scraps – Ghanaian ‘billionaire’ Cheddar

It seems the scrap dealers in your communities are doing something wrong because young Ghanaian self-acclaimed billionaire Cheddar just opened up about his first source of wealth and it’s shocking.

According to the business mogul and president of the Kwarleyz Group (Wonda World Estates and Petronia City Development), he made a million pounds when he was just 21 years old.

Cheddar, who recently changed his legal name from Nana Kwame Bediako to Freedom Jacob Caesar, revealed on ‘Drive On Joy’ on Thursday (Feb. 6) that he made that money by selling scraps and communication materials.

“By age 21, he had made a million pounds for himself, selling scrap, steel, and telecommunications material while in school at Waltham Forest College,” Joy FM’s Twitter quoted him.

Cheddar, who owns a 7million dollar mansion in California, further revealed that he was able to afford a car, mobile phone and started his business just three weeks into his college.

“I started college and the first three weeks I bought a car, mobile phone and started my business.”

He said the first business he opened in Ghana was a nightclub.

“When I came to Ghana, the first business I opened was a night club.”

He had an advice for all. According to him, it’s better to spend on loved ones now than when they pass away.

“We spend too much money on funerals. We need to honour our loved ones now and not when they die.”

However, Twitter users didn’t believe his claims. Some think something smells fishy about his source of wealth.

I have a seat to win, I don’t have your time – Dumelo jabs NPP’s Lydia Alhassan

“Yet she follows me on social media and posts when she even donates safety pins. I have a seat to win…I no get en time. #timenodey #idey4u,” this is a direct response from John Dumelo to his political opponent Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

Madam Lydia Seyram Alhassan, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency, is reported to have said in an interview that John Dumelo, a parliamentary candidate for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), only exists on social media.

She is reported to have made such comments in an interview with Kwaku Dawuro on Anopa Nkomo on Accra-based Kingdom FM 107.7.

“Politics is not about pushing trucks in the community and putting it on social media to get 1 million views. Most of the people are not even in the constituents. Some are Afghanistan and Iraq. Politics is about what you do for the grassroots and youth in the Constituency.”

But in a sharp response, the budding politician claims he doesn’t have the time to respond to his contender’s comments.

Last year October, Mr. Dumelo joined a host of others to clean the gutters and drains in some parts of the Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency.

In a viral video, the actor cum entrepreneur was spotted helping in the exercise by transporting a truck to offload its rubbish.
