Ras Caleb endorses the paying of payola

Veteran roots reggae artiste, Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, has stated that paying Television and Radio stations for music promotion is a good thing to do as an artiste.

Speaking in an interview on The Late Nite Celebrity Show with Foster Romanus, he said; “Before a musician in Ghana here will like to promote his or her music on the radio on television, he or she has to pay and it is good.

“But there is something wrong somewhere. For instance in Côte d’Ivoire, where I knew i’m privy to it. When they play we log so the artistes get money to pay for promotion unlike Ghana where it is vice versa.

“If you log and you play my music, I will also get money to promote the music on my network and other networks.

“GHAMRO is responsible for checking the logging system. GBC used to log but when other stations came along, they stopped”.

Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, is a Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA’s) presidential aspirant. He has songs like Slimbelly Man, How Long, Ghana is calling, Life is Beach and many more. Source:etv.gh

Ghana Music Awards USA is BET standard not VGMA – Chief Organizer

Organizers of Ghana Music Awards USA, Don’s Music Production, 2Geez Entertainment and Highlife Media has stated that the standards of the awards scheme is that of BET Awards and not Vodafone Ghana Music Award.

According to the Chief Organizer of the scheme, Mr Godfred Wiafe also known as Gee, they want the scheme to be the most respected awards scheme in the diaspora and Ghana entertainment industry.

Gee made this known in an interview with DJ Nyaami on SVTV Africa.

“This is our main, so it’s either you go hard or you don’t come at all. So we wanna take the proper steps to make sure we deliver. When you hear Ghana Music Awards USA – you expecting big; I mean when you watch VGMA here in Ghana and watch the BET Awards, watch MTV Awards, watch the Oscars – you know what I mean, is something totally different. So anytime something is in America, you expect the highest expectation.” He said.

He noted that, together with his team, they will work hard to elevate the scheme’s clout in this year’s and the subsequent ones.

The 2020 edition of the Ghana Music Awards USA is set to be launched on 18th January 2020 in New Jersey, USA and 28th March 2020 in Accra-Ghana respectively.

SVTV Africa will bring to you the official nominations list for this year’s edition which has sampled several hardworking talents across the music scene in Ghana and in the USA.

The annual event which is organized to celebrate and honour Ghanaian Entertainers in and outside Ghana aims at extending the advancement of the Ghanaian music industry both home and abroad, into a universal market for worldwide acknowledgement of Ghanaian innovative work.

The event, which is being organised by Don’s Music Production in partnership with 2 Geez Entertainment and Highlife Media, is expected to attract a large number of stakeholders, including international artistes from Africa, Europe and the United States.

Actress Salma Mumin to feed 600 kids in Wa

Ghanaian actress, Salma Mumin has disclosed her readiness to feed about 600 children in Wa through her Salma Mumin Foundation.

Salma, who was speaking at the launch of the Salma Mumin Foundation in Accra on Friday, January 10, 2020, commended the government and non-governmental institutions who put in efforts to create mentorship and feeding programs for underprivileged children across the various regions in the country.

She, however, lamented how this help hardly extends to the slums of the northern part of Ghana.

“Growing up in Wa, I noticed there were many deprived children in our local community without hope of what they can be in the future, there are children who spent their school children begging for money and food by the street. There are children who do not grow to achieve their full potential because of hunger and complications from malnutrition. It is the responsibility of each and every one of us to save these children. It is our duty to provide opportunities which deprived of these children through death, broken homes and poverty, all which are not of theirs,” she revealed.

“Salma Mumin Foundation is not just an organization, but my duty. It is not just this but a commitment to the future, commitment to provide good education and health for the wellbeing of our future leaders,” the actress stated.

“In the quest of providing hope for more children, the next Salma feeds project is on the 15th January at Wa which is targeting to feed over 600 children and also provide foodstuffs to the canteen of two schools,” she opened up on the Foundation’s upcoming project.

She added: “Through our Salma Feeds program under the Salma Mumin Foundation, we fed over 5000 street children in James Town in 2018. This program encourages good community engagement between the deprived children and my team of professional caregivers and life coaches.”

I’ve never been ‘used’ in exchange for a role – Akuapem Poloo

Controversial Ghanaian entertainer, Akuapem Poloo, has revealed that she has never been made to provide sexual pleasure in exchange for a movie role.

Interviewed on Happy FM’s Ayekoo After-Drive show, she told host, DJ Advicer that most men are scared of her. According to her, men send her texts telling her they want her but are scared that she might expose them when things do not go well.

Poloo confirmed rumours that some actresses give themselves to producers for roles in movies but no one can boast that they have had their way with her in exchange for a role and this is a big strategy for her.

’Never in my life have I been used in exchange for a role. Even when I started working as a video vixen, I have been getting jobs through my friends. I have a friend who is a video vixen so when she gets job offers, she forwards some to me and when I am done, she pays me, not the artiste’’.

The actress added that aside working as a video vixen, actress and doing promotions on social media, she also makes a lot of money from her sale of honey and selling just one gallon of her natural honey can make her enough money to foot her utility bills hence she does not need to sleep around for movie roles.

Why You Still Need CDs If You’re Planning On Doing These 3 Things

I’ve got some news for you that might be hard to believe if you’re a musician hard at work in 2019. CDs are not a thing of the past. Far from it, actually. Believe it or not, there’s a couple of occasions in music where downloads and sending out links to stream your music simply won’t suffice. Technology has massively transformed the way the music industry operates, but there are a few things that have managed to weather the changes so far, and CDs is one of them. Here are three instances where you’ll need to duplicate CDs in your music career:

DIY or professional radio campaign
If you’ve got an album coming out that you want to promote with a professional or DIY radio campaign, you’re going to need CD versions of your music to get the job done right. Sure, you can search through the music submission formats of each and every radio station you’re planning on pitching, but this will largely be a waste of time because most serious stations only accept CDs. Will this change in a world growing more and more accustomed to the convenience of streaming? Maybe, but we’re not there yet. This might be frustrating if you’re an artist used to the convenience of posting your music online the minute it’s mastered, but legitimate radio campaigns still require CDs.

PR for your next album, EP, or single
This same concept goes for PR campaigns DIY or otherwise. Folks in the music industry who run blogs, write columns, and curate playlists are inundated with an endless supply of new music begging to be reviewed and featured. Duplicating CDs is a way to reflect a certain level of seriousness on behalf of an artist, and they’ll present your songs in a pristine, easy-to-listen-to format. Putting yourself in the shoes of the people you share your music with will greatly increase your chances of finding success, and sending CDs show that you mean business about your music.
Represent your music in the best possible sound to fans and music industry influencers
If you haven’t been making music for a very long time, do yourself a favor and play your record through a streaming format and then on CD. The difference in quality will astound you. Most audiences have grown accustomed to listening to music that’s been squashed down into convenient streaming files, but music industry influencers and hardcore music-lovers haven’t. If you want to present your work in the best way possible from an audio perspective, CDs are still the best way to do it. In 2019, you’re not likely to sell loads of CDs, but not offering them means missing a big opportunity to give something valuable to fans, radio stations, and press outlets.

CD duplication might just sound like another cost swimming in a sea of other expenses surrounding an album release, but it’s something you should plan for if you want to be taken seriously by picky fans, radio stations, and press outlets in 2019.

Some Of Ghanaian musicians are suffering, most of them are just pretending – Epixode

Ghanaian Dancehall musician Epixode has bitterly stated that living conditions are not well with Ghanaian musicians and as a matter of fact, majority of them are suffering.

Epixode told Ghanaian Journalist/Blogger Attractive Mustapha in a video interview that the state of the economy is hard and has its effects on the music industry. He admitted that times are hard and musicians struggle to make ends meet but because the name of the game is Showbiz, some find it very difficult to admit it .

He blamed the suffering on the bad systems and structures and the fact that no Ghanaian musician legitimately receives royalties.

“The systems are not in place so musicians are suffering. All the glamours and hype you see are all for showbiz purposes “, Epixode said.

He added that “It’s just because we are into showbiz so you portray some kind of picture and you need to maintain it but behind closed doors we all know that we are suffering”. He told Attractivemustapha.com.

He retorted that no Ghanaian musician can purchase or own a Lamborghini but they claim they are0 doing well.
